Jail Math

Paris Hilton was just released from jail after serving "five days." What? You say that she was only in there for THREE, right? You are correct!

Apparently, if you check-in at 11:59 p.m., then that's counted as a day served, and if you leave at 12:01 a.m., then that's counted as a full day, too.

Medical reasons were cited for her release and that she was crying that it was too cold, and it was just awful being in jail. Remember that she wasn't in the general population but in the SPECIAL NEEDS section; a section reserved for law enforcement and public administrators, etc. Now she has to rough it out at her home for 40 days with an ankle bracelet. As is human nature, you don't really realize how easy you have/had it, until things change a little.

What offenses do you think serving HOUSE ARREST is appropriate?

If you think that is unfair, get a load of this: In Greece, people jailed for life, for murder, rape, etc, get out in about 20 years. (That was the life expectancy of Neanderthals)!

I think it's ridiculous. I really hate the media and all the hub-bub about Paris going to jail. But here's my two cents: It's not fair to the other inmates that she gets that kind of treatment because she's "cold" and jail is an awful place. Um, duh? And this obscure medical condition she has, they won't even disclose! I really wish they weren't so lenient with her sentence, or other celebrities as a matter of fact. The unjustice of it all pisses me off. I'm sure there is some sort of conspiracy between the Hilton's, the authorities, and the doctors. To get off from an unusual 3 day sentence like this, means somebody is getting paid to do the dirty deeds.

Paris may have gotten off lightly. Her prison sentence was not that of a typical person, but then her lifestyle is not typical either. I'm not making excuses though. It's not justice if the sentence of the judical system is not carried out to it's full completion.
With that being said, I think there are several crimminals in jail that would be more adequately handled in a properly controlled house arrest situation. The corrections system is on overload because of the jail sentences handed down on a daily basis. Just my opinion, but prison should be for those people that simply should not be in the general population, such as violent or repeat offenders. All others should be treated with extensive rehab programs, for whatever crime they have committed, and strictly controlled house arrest. Let them pay for their own food, water, electric, healthcare, and oh, don't forget the cable television and gym membership. I get tired of paying for it.

I can see you chasing the worms all over the place now. Need help putting them back in the can?

I think that if they'd start enforcing the death penalty, we wouldn't have overcrowding in our jails. I think if you screw up, you should go to jail, plain and simple, not house arrest.
